Help us eliminate single-use plastics from “Shark Island” Fuvahmulah, Maldives!

This one island imports around 2,400,000 water bottles per year, most of which are drinking water.

With tourism increasing surrounding the newly discovered Tiger Shark diving, this figure is only going to increase.

Fuvahmulah local @inah_shark is the owner of Pelagic Divers Fuvahmulah and has the solution to this waste problem, and with the support of Ocean Ramsey, Juan Sharks, and YOU, we can fix it!

For only US$50,000 we can install a water filter in every single home on the island, and build a small-scale industrial bottling plant that will supply restaurants, hotels, and guest houses, removing the need for plastic water bottles island-wide.

Single-use plastic use will be reduced by 90%, overall waste on the island will be almost halved, residents and local businesses will save money keeping approximately USD$1m a year within the local economy, and life above and below the surface will be improved.

Our small pilot program in 2021 already installed filters in 30 homes and proved this program will work, those homes no longer use any plastic bottles! Now we just need your help to scale this solution.

Help support this project, remove plastic water bottles from this Tiger Shark haven, and keep this global treasure pristine for decades to come.

Any surplus funds raised will be used to donate reusable shopping bags to locals to eliminate plastic bag use. The locals here want alternatives, they just need our help.
